September 2016 Pet of the Month: Shiva

My name is Shiva Brownrigg. I was born in Questa, New Mexico, around June 1, 2004. I hunted and foraged with my mom there until August, when she weaned me by leaving me at some nice people’s house. They took me inside while she watched from afar. They had a friend visiting, who took me with her back to San Francisco. I’d never even been on a leash before, and I had to deal with cars, sidewalks, big stairs, and a big, black 13-year-old Belgian Shepherd who didn’t really like dogs! (I quickly endeared myself to her, though.) I was housebroken in two weeks, and then we moved to Sausalito, where I had a big yard, got to go running three times a week with my mom, and went to doggie daycare every day! I got really good at playing ball and then hiding in the grass on walks to ambush mom! My step dog-mom died a year later. I missed her, but I was happy I finally got to be Alpha! In 2006, I took my first of many airplane rides to New Mexico! This was no fun at all, and I was always really happy to get there! I love running free in the woods, and I’m really good about staying on the property and checking in. I also liked going back to Marin, where I could sit by the glass slider and watch for people and dogs to walk up the street. It was cool to live in two different states for a while. I’ve been to some other places, too. Out of the country, even....
August 2016 Pet of the Month: Annabelle

August 2016 Pet of the Month: Annabelle

Hi. My name is Annabelle, and I have been chosen as Pet of the Month for August (thank you, Dr. Kelly and staff!). I would like to tell you a little bit about myself. I was born on November 30, 2009. My biological dad is from Colorado, and my biological mom is from Wisconsin. I have 14 brothers and sisters, making us a litter of 15 (my poor mother!), and I am the runt. In January 2010, I was adopted by Cindy and Bob Rinaldi and their family from Illinois. They have given me a wonderful home filled with love. In January 2016, I began to feel ill. My mom took me to the doctor. After a few tests and bloodwork, I was diagnosed with lymphoma. This was very upsetting to my mom and dad. We were just getting ready to move to Santa Fe in six weeks when we received this awful news. Mom and Dad got me into a cancer center in Illinois as soon as possible. It is there I began my treatments. We moved to Santa Fe in March of 2016. My dad found Veterinary Cancer Care in Santa Fe, where I have continued my treatment. Dr. Kelly and her staff have been wonderful. They have given me treats, baby food, and parts of their lunches (can’t get better than that). Above and beyond the traditional cancer treatment, I also take many supplements to increase my immune system. I am happy to say that after 26 weeks of treatment, my lymphoma is in remission. I will continue to be evaluated and monitored by Dr. Kelly...
